Duckweed (Lemna minor L.) Successfully Accumulates Selenium from Selenium-Impacted Water

چکیده

The absorption of selenium (Se) from water by Lemna minor L. and the influence different concentrations forms Se on its biochemical morphological characteristics were studied. Plants exposed to various Se: 1 mg L−1, 2 L−1 5 in sodium selenite selenate solutions a combination (2 L−1) L−1). When was added form selenate, plants accumulated higher amounts compared selenite. Comparisons combined addition + with their individual applications showed that for combination, fronds more than alone. any or selenite, inferior physiological performances, lower photosynthetic pigments, control plants. Consequently, growth also suppressed under stress conditions caused form. efficient indicates potential use this species phytoremediation processes waters polluted Se.

Adjuvants Affect Duckweed (Lemna minor) Control with Pelargonic Acid

Duckweeds (Lemna spp.) are small, free floating aquatic plants that flourish on stagnant or slow moving water surfaces throughout the world. Members of the genus are among the smallest flowering plants, providing food for fish and fowl, but their aggressive growth and invasive tendencies make them formidable aquatic weeds, which when uncontrolled can result in oxygen depletion, fish kills, and ...

Performance of duckweed (Lemna minor L.) on different types of wastewater treatment.

Duckweed (Lemna minor L.) has a wide application in Turkey having suitable climatic conditions. In this study, the growth of duckweed was assessed in laboratory scale experiments. They were fed with municipal and industrial wastewater at constant temprature. COD, total nitrogen (TN), total phosphorus (TP) and ortho-phosphate (OP) removal efficiencies of the reactors were monitored by sampling i...

The effect of salinity and osmotic stress on duckweed Lemna minor L

The response of duckweed (Lemna minor L.) to salinity and osmotic stress was evaluated by monitoring growth and peroxidase activity every second day, for a period of 17 days. The nutrient medium was supplemented with isoosmolar concentrations of NaCl and mannitol (50 mM and 100 mM NaCl, 100 mM and 200 mM mannitol). Growth decreased markedly with increasing concentrations of NaCl and mannitol. T...

Antioxidative responses of duckweed (Lemna minor L.) to short-term copper exposure.

GOAL, SCOPE AND BACKGROUND Elevated concentrations of copper in the environment result in accumulation of the metal in plants and cause an increase in reactive oxidative species (ROS). The first response to elevated amounts of ROS is increased levels of enzymatic and non-enzymatic antioxidants that reduce oxidative stress. The aim of our study was to evaluate the early stages of antioxidative r...

Ecotoxicological assessment of industrial effluent using duckweed (Lemna minor L.) as a test organism.

This study aimed at assessing the toxic effects of industrial effluents using duckweed (Lemna minor L.) plants as a test system. Growth inhibition test according to standardized protocol (ISO 20079) was performed. The suitability of the Comet assay (indicates DNA damage) and certain parameters such as peroxidase activity and lipid peroxidation level, as biomarkers for environmental monitoring w...
